Israeli Seminarian Stabbed by Arab After Prayer at Wall

JERUSALEM — A Palestinian shouting “God is great!” stabbed an Orthodox Jew in the Arab section of Jerusalem’s walled Old City on Wednesday in the latest violence of the 21-month-old Palestinian uprising, police said.
Yehuda Avrahami, 23, a seminary student, told a reporter that he was attacked as he walked from prayers at the Western Wall, a Jewish holy site in the Old City, toward the Damascus Gate.
“About 100 meters away from Damascus Gate, an Arab . . . stabbed me in the back. The knife was in me for two minutes. . . . There were no police, no soldiers,” Avrahami said.
“I started to say Shma Yisrael (Hear O Israel).” The phrase is a Jewish prayer recited before death.
Hospital officials said Yehuda was in good condition.
Police detained more than 20 Palestinians for questioning but said they had not arrested any suspects.
