The National Hockey League Board of Governors voted to give an automatic game misconduct penalty to any player who incurs two fighting majors in the same game and is assessed an instigator penalty in addition to the second fighting major. Previously, a player was ejected after three fighting majors.

Any player who receives two boarding majors in a game will receive a game misconduct penalty.
