American Express Co.: The New York financial services and travel company’s third-quarter earnings advanced 21% from a year ago to $332 million. Revenue totaled $6.5 billion, up 24%. The results were attributed to a profit of $66 million at Shearson Lehman Hutton, contrasted with a loss of $3 million a year ago, in part because of a $37-million after-tax gain on the sale of the institutional money management business of Lehman Management Co.
