United Brands: The Cincinnati-based banana producer said third-quarter profit was up sharply due primarily to the sale of its interest in FII-Fyffes, a distributor of fresh fruit and vegetables primarily in Great Britain. Net income totaled $20.3 million, compared to $2.7 million a year ago. Sales rose 18% to $900 million.
