Garson to Fund SMU Theater: Actress Greer Garson played her role as philanthropist Monday when she announced her donation of a major theater for Southern Methodist University in Dallas. The 50,000-square-foot Greer Garson Theatre is scheduled for completion by fall, 1991. Terms of the gift aren’t set yet, but Garson has pledged to pay for the full cost of the multimillion-dollar facility, an SMU spokeswoman said. Garson, 81, who won an Academy Award in 1942 for “Mrs. Miniver” and starred in dozens of other films and on Broadway, devotes her time to aiding the arts and education.
