From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Lucky, Alpha Beta to Share Warehouses: Under an agreement with California Atty. Gen. John Van de Kamp, some limited “operational cooperation” will be allowed between the Lucky and Alpha Beta chains in Southern California. The two supermarket chains are owned by American Stores but have not been allowed to merge because of a challenge by Van de Kamp. The case is pending before the U.S. Supreme Court. Among other things, the two chains’ manufacturing and warehousing operations will be allowed to sell and deliver products of both chains.
