American Plans Additional Fare Increase: American Airlines said it is raising one-way fares an additional 10% to cover fuel costs, at a when time airline profits are eroding. Along with most other airlines, American raised one-way fares 4% last Thursday to cover the increased cost of fuel. In addition, American said it planned to add a $6 fuel surcharge on one-way tickets and a $12 surcharge on round-trip tickets, effective Feb. 1.
