Beckman Instruments Inc.: Net income for 1989 was $41.9 million, down a fraction from 1988, on revenue of $785.9 million, up 2% over the previous year. The Fullerton-based firm said interest expense increased as a result of debt incurred during the recapitalization of the company in preparation for its spinoff from SmithKline Beckman Corp. Beckman makes automated systems and supplies used in biological laboratories.
