Installation of Steel Barricades Approved

The Los Angeles Board of Public Works on Monday approved installation of steel-pipe barricades to replace temporary barriers erected at five intersections around a Sepulveda neighborhood to curtail drug traffic.
“The barricades have been a positive thing, and I have not heard one complaint,” said Mila Casper, one of about 12 apartment owners who will share the $5,000 cost of installing the permanent barricades. “Residents feel more secure, and children are playing out on the street again.”
Police have reported a 36% decrease in crime since sawhorse barricades were erected three months ago. But the sawhorses are too easily vandalized, and officials have been seeking permanent fixtures.
