DNA DOUBTS: The sheriff’s genetic testing lab, due to open soon (B4), is being heralded as a boon to law enforcement, but at least one UC Irvine expert has his doubts. . . . Lawyer/psychologist William C. Thompson, an assistant social ecology professor, testified for the defense in a Minnesota case where a man was being linked to a murder based on DNA testing of his blood, done by a commercial crime lab. . . . The Minnesota Supreme Court later threw out use of the DNA evidence, criticizing inadequate quality control at the testing lab.
