Marshall Field, Saks Up for Sale: Two of the classiest names in retailing, Marshall Field and Saks Fifth Avenue, were placed on the auction block by BAT Industries PLC, which hopes to fetch $1 billion for each of the chains. Chicago-based Marshall Field has 24 stores and New York-based Saks has 46. BAT, the London-based conglomerate, is trying to fend off the unwanted advances of corporate raider Sir James Goldsmith.
