Mark McGwire of the Oakland Athletics signed a one-year, $1.5-million contract, avoiding arbitration.
The 26-year-old first baseman also received a number of incentive bonuses totaling $195,000.
McGwire had asked $1.72 million and the A’s had offered $1 million.
