From Times Staff and Wire Service Reports

FBI Probing Sprint Bid: The FBI is investigating allegations by a former US Sprint employee that the long-distance telephone company obtained and used confidential information about its competitors to help win a piece of the federal government’s $25-billion communications contract, the company confirmed. The Baltimore Sun reported Friday that the FBI investigation was launched last fall after a complaint from a former salesman in Sprint’s federal division. The newspaper said the investigation, which has found no evidence of wrongdoing, centers on allegations that Sprint obtained and used proprietary information in preparing its successful bid. A Sprint spokesman called the allegations “totally groundless.”
