Eastwood Sues Tabloid for ‘False’ Nazi Story

Clint Eastwood has sued a weekly supermarket tabloid, alleging it falsely claimed extremists threatened to kill him for refusing to speak at a convention of white racists.

The lawsuit, filed Thursday in federal court in Los Angeles, alleges the Jan. 2 article in The Globe, headlined “Nazi Thugs Put Bounty on Clint--But Dirty Harry Won’t Lay Low,” was false, inflammatory, and constituted invasion of privacy.

The story, attributed to unidentified sources “close to the actor,” reported that Eastwood became a target after turning down a speaking invitation by the Aryan Nation.

Eastwood ignored the threats, saying, “I’ve never shied away from a fight, and I won’t start now,” according to The Globe.

Court papers filed on behalf of the 59-year-old actor and filmmaker say he never received such an invitation, never received any death threats and never uttered that quote.

Eastwood is asking for $2 million in general damages and $20 million in punitive damages.
