African Art Display: An exhibition of works from the Harry A. Franklin Collection of African art, to be auctioned on April 21 in New York, goes on public view today and Thursday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Sotheby’s Beverly Hills showroom. Among auction highlights at 308 N. Rodeo Drive is a renowned Cameroon wood figure called “The Bangwa Queen.” The sculpture, considered one of the finest pieces of African art ever to come to auction, is estimated at $300,000 to $400,000, but experts say the figure may challenge the $2.08 million record for African art, set last July for a Benin bronze head.
