Times Mirror to Buy Five Weeklies: Southern Connecticut Newspapers, a subsidiary of Times Mirror Co., publisher of The Times, has agreed to acquire five small weekly newspapers serving Fairfield County, Conn. The price was not disclosed. The papers, owned by Acorn Press, have a combined circulation of 21,800. Acorn, based in Ridgefield, Conn., has been owned since 1937 by the Nash family, headed by Karl S. Nash, company president and principal stockholder.
