World IN BRIEF : COLOMBIA : Drug Lords Vow Retaliation

The Medellin drug cartel threatened to retaliate against the government’s renewed extradition of accused drug traffickers to the United States. The threat came a day after Bogota granted Washington’s petition for extradition of Fernando Gutierrez Perez, who was flown to Phoenix. Gutierrez was the 15th accused trafficker sent to the United States since Colombia began a major war against drug cartels last August. “We will not remain indifferent in the face of betrayal, torture and assassinations of our companions,” said a statement signed by “the Extraditables,” as Medellin cartel leaders call themselves.
