Dodgers Shouldn’t Use Marshall Plan

It’s probably no surprise to the students of the game, but as a casual Dodger fan, I was struck by the apparent turnaround in the organization’s development philosophy in recent years. There was a time when the Dodgers were the classic practitioners of the farm system, nurturing the young talent from the minors to the big club. Witness the era of Garvey, Lopes, Russell, Cey and Yeager.

On opening day, we saw imported talent at six of the eight regular positions:

Samuel (Mets).

Randolph (Yankees).

Brooks (Expos).

Murray (Orioles).

Daniels (Reds).

Griffin (A’s).
