Browning-Ferris Industries Inc.: The waste disposal company said it lost $226.3 million in its second quarter, contrasted with a profit of $58.8 million in the same period a year ago. Revenue rose 22% to $708.5 million. The Houston firm said the results included a one-time charge of $295 million related to its withdrawal from the hazardous waste collection, treatment and disposal business.
