Soviets Importing U.S. Chickens: The Soviet Union began buying American-grown broilers last fall for the first time in years, the Agriculture Department reported, and looks likely to edge out Japan this year as the leading chicken-export market for U.S. producers. While 1989 sales involved only about 26 million pounds, Moscow has bought about 260 million pounds so far this year, which the department valued at more than $100 million.
