French Neo-Royalists Jailed in Attack

PARIS — A court has given six-month jail terms to each of three neo-royalists who attacked an opera singer performing rebel songs during last year’s bicentennial celebration of the French Revolution.
Christophe de Peyrelongue, 24, and 29-year-old twins Philippe and Giovanni Castelluccio were among 20 people who stormed the Bouffes du Nord theater last January during the performance by mezzo-soprano Helene Delavault.
The group hurled tear gas into the crowd and threw blue paint on Delavault’s clothing and glue on her hair. They then fled, shouting: “Long live the king!”
Last week the Correctional Tribunal gave the three defendants a one-year sentence but suspended six months. The court also ordered each to pay one franc (about 17 cents) in symbolic damages.
