MARINES LAND: The Marines and the county are talking again about a planned toll route through a corner of Camp Pendleton. . . . The reason: the base was dropped as a possible airport site. The shift “has caused great exhilaration from the Marines,” says tollway official William C. Woollett. It would be the Foothill Tollway, connecting a tollway near Irvine Lake to I-5 south of San Clemente.
