Milke Resigns as CSUN Women’s Basketball Coach

Leslie Milke, the Cal State Northridge women’s basketball coach for the past seven years, has resigned her position, according to a university press release. Milke’s resignation comes a little more than four months before Northridge begins its first season at the NCAA Division I level.

Milke, who has been associated with the Northridge program as either a player, assistant coach or head coach since 1975, posted a 100-94 career record.

She was selected California Collegiate Athletic Assn. Coach of the Year in 1985-86 and again in 1988-89. She was the District VIII Coach of the Year in 1985-86.

After posting a school-record 22-9 mark in 1988-89, Northridge was hit hard by injuries last season and finished 11-18.

The Lady Matadors’ season-ending loss to Cal Poly Pomona was the most bitter. The Lady Broncos, who eventually finished third in the NCAA Division II national tournament, hammered Northridge, 79-47, in the championship game of the CCAA tournament.

Pomona had narrowly defeated Northridge, 83-82 in overtime, in 1989 to win the Division II West regional title.
