MCA Inc.: The Los Angeles-based entertainment company said second-quarter earnings were up 6.6% to $44.8 million, compared to the year-ago period. Revenue also rose 14% to $949.9 million. The company attributed its improved performance to its film and music entertainment businesses, which posted record revenues. The movie sector benefited from the release of “Birds on a Wire” and “Back to the Future Part III,” which have grossed $65 million and $76 million, respectively.
