Mary Abigail McCarthy, 41, closely identified with the 1968 Democratic presidential campaign of her father, former Sen. Eugene J. McCarthy of Minnesota. She was a student at Radcliffe when she took a year off to travel with her mother, Abigail, and other family members on behalf of her father’s unsuccessful presidential bid. After graduation from New York University School of Law she became a public defender in Washington and then went to Yale to teach law in 1982. She became co-director of Yale’s legal clinic. On Saturday in Branford, Conn., of pancreatic cancer.
