Alaska Kudos

Your Aug. 12 issue on Alaska brought back so many vivid memories. Laurie Becklund’s story, “Frozen in Time, Glaciers Age Before Your Eyes” featured a photo of warmly dressed visitors to Mendenhall Glacier. We were there in mid-August and our guide was in shirtsleeves, it was that warm. The helicopter ride to the glacier was absolutely spectacular.

We sailed to Alaska on the Noordam, and the best shore excursion was the Gold Creek Salmon Bake just outside of Juneau. The barbecued salmon (all you could eat) had been caught only hours before.
