Merger Falls Through: Nichols Institute, a medical laboratory chain based in San Juan Capistrano, said it has canceled its previously announced merger with Associated Laboratories Inc. of Los Gatos. “We just could not reach agreement on the terms,” investor relations manager Marilyn Hauge said last week. The merger would have given Nichols its first regional diagnostic laboratory in the San Francisco area.
