L.A. Will Celebrate City’s 209th Birthday

The City of Los Angeles will celebrate its 209th birthday Sept. 3 at El Pueblo Historic Park, adjacent to Olvera Street. Descendants of the city’s founders, known as Los Pobladores , and the public will meet at 6:30 a.m. at San Gabriel Mission to begin a nine-mile walk downtown.

Mayor Tom Bradley and other officials will greet the pobladores at 10:15 a.m. A special brunch will be served from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Cost: $12.50; reservations required: (213) 680-2525. Other activities, until 3 p.m., will be free.
