SHORT TAKES : 17th-Century Painting Stolen

PARIS — A 17th-Century Belgian painting valued at more than $225,000 was stolen from a gallery at the Grand Palais, police said today The theft occurred Monday evening in a room not opened to the public, police said. Police gave no title or date for the painting by Peter Gysels (1621-1690), known for his landscapes and still lifes.
The painting was to go on display Thursday as part of a 16-day exhibition.
At least four other Paris museums have suffered art thefts this year, all of them unsolved.
