La Verne : New City Attorney Chosen

After considering candidates from 16 law firms, the City Council on Monday named Robert Kress the new city attorney.
Kress, of the Santa Monica firm Wallin, Kress, Reisman, Price & Dilkes, took over from Scott Smith of the Riverside firm Best, Best & Krieger. Best, Best & Krieger is being retained as special legal counsel to handle continuing legal business.
Councilman Thomas R. Harvey, who earlier this year suggested a change in city attorneys, said he felt Best, Best & Krieger could have better defended a lawsuit seeking to block a proposed Edwards theater complex.
