TV REVIEWS : ‘She-Wolf of London’ Lacks Humor, Bite

Randy as it is, small fry may indeed enjoy “Outer Space,” which is more than will likely be said about the show that follows it, “She-Wolf of London” (at 9 p.m.). The utterly humorless story of a female American werewolf near London, it’s too plodding and sexless for kids, and too plodding and sexless for adults.

Having been bitten by a Gypsy wolf after camping out on the moors, the young student of the title (Kate Hodge) joins forces with her parapsychology professor/love interest to find her attacker, whom she manages to chase off a cliff to his death. “Tomorrow is the first day of the rest of my curse,” she muses glumly. As the full moon begins to rise, the love-struck prof--who’s obviously seen the “Cat People” remake--happily chains his hair-sprouting charge in the basement till morning, when they’ll presumably chase other supernatural baddies to their deaths in future episodes.

Both shows are part of a fledgling bid by MCA Entertainment, KCOP and a New York station to produce original programming for independent TV outlets, a la Fox. A third series, “Shades of L.A.”--a cop/ghost show--airs Wednesday at 9.
