Tokyo Stocks Plunge 909.48

TOKYO — Share prices in Tokyo plunged today, with the Nikkei Stock Average of 225 selected issues losing 909.48 points, or 3.87%, closing at 22,585.63.
In thin trading, an estimated 300 million shares changed hands.
Japan’s financial markets were closed Wednesday for a national holiday.
Traders said investors were discouraged after the New York Stock Exchange’s Dow Jones industrial average fell 78.22 points Tuesday and 37.62 points Wednesday.
