Bank Sues Former Columbia S&L; Chief: Bankers Trust alleged in a suit filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles that Thomas Spiegel failed to make a $1.2-million payment on a line of credit. Also named as defendants in the suit are Spiegel’s wife, Helene, and his father, Abraham, who is acting trustee of the Thomas Spiegel 1982 Trust. The suit seeks to recover $1.2 million plus interest from Thomas Spiegel and $1.8 million allegedly overdue from the trust. Regulators have previously charged Spiegel with squandering the thrift’s assets. A lawyer for Spiegel said he had not yet seen the Bankers Trust lawsuit.
