Debate Over U.S. Policy in Persian Gulf

Two of your correspondents (letters, Nov. 15) criticize British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher for her reference to “stern military action in the gulf.” One of them says, “the lives that will be lost will not be English lives, but the lives of young Americans.” This is not necessarily so. The second largest military contingent in the area is the British one.
