Meier’s New Design : A Hanukkah lamp designed by contemporary architect Richard Meier has been acquired by the Hebrew Union Skirball Museum in Los Angeles. The tin, 10-inch-high lamp will go on view Tuesday to tie in with the first day of the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah. On the lamp, each of the eight candle holders signifying each of the eight days of the holiday also are designed as architectural metaphors for places and events in Jewish history. The latest acquisition adds to the Skirball Museum’s collection of Judaica, which includes hundreds of Hanukkah lamps, some dating back to the 16th Century.
