I’m sure the audience comes to love the horse and the wolf in the movie, so why do they have to die? And why do we have to watch a buffalo slaughter?

We go the movies for entertainment, not for cruelty to innocents. There is already sufficient amounts of that in the real world--we do not need to see it in the reel world also!
