Gubernatorial Gala: Las Vegas entertainer Wayne Newton, a friend and high school classmate of Gov.-elect Pete Wilson’s wife, Gayle, will headline Wilson’s inaugural party next month. Newton will join performers Charlton Heston and Arnold Schwarzenegger at the gala, which will be held Jan. 6 at the Arco Arena in Sacramento. The event will be hosted by Mary Hart of “Entertainment Tonight.” The participating entertainers were active Wilson supporters during his campaign, said a Wilson spokesman. The party features a show organized by producer Bob Wynn, who produced the U.S. Bicentennial celebration and several editions of the American Rock Music Awards. Also performing will be opera singer Julia Migenes, the Kingston Trio and comedians Fred Travalena and Gallagher. Ticket prices for the event start at $100.
