San Dimas : City Staff Gets Paid Day Off

For the first time since Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday was first observed as a national holiday in 1986, city employees will get the day off with pay.
The City Council on Wednesday voted 3 to 2 to approve the request by the city’s Employee Assn., which is composed of 75 full- and part-time workers. Mayor Terry L. Dipple and Councilman Curt Morris voted against the proposal, saying they wanted the association to give up a floating holiday.
The extra day off is expected to cost the city $10,000, said City Manager Robert L. Poff.
The federal holiday in honor of the assassinated civil rights leader is observed the third Monday of January.
