Glennis Yeager; Wife of Aviation Pioneer

Glennis Yeager, the “Glamorous Glennis” whose name adorns the airplane in which her husband became the first man to fly faster than the speed of sound, has died. She was 66.
Mrs. Yeager died of cancer Dec. 22 at Travis Air Force Base hospital, a family spokesman said Wednesday.
Her husband, Chuck Yeager, broke the sound barrier in the Bell X-1, which he dubbed “Glamorous Glennis.” The name is painted prominently on the plane which now hangs in the Air and Space Museum of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington.
Mrs. Yeager was a third-generation native of Grass Valley, Calif. She is survived by her husband, their four children and 13 grandchildren.
