NATION : Seymour Sworn In to Congress

WASHINGTON — Former California state Sen. John Seymour was sworn in as a U.S. senator today, succeeding Pete Wilson, who resigned to become governor.
Seymour, a Republican from Anaheim, was given the oath of office by Vice President Dan Quayle. After signing the official Senate roll he was given a standing ovation by colleagues.
Seymour’s appointment leaves the Democrats with a 56-44 majority.
Seymour will hold the U.S. Senate seat until the 1992 election, when he must run for election to the final two years of Wilson’s term.
