Rating America’s Contemporary Directors

Regarding Mathews’ arrogant and mean-spirited article: I wonder if Mr. Mathews remembers that the reviews for the first two “Godfather” films--like the ones for “Part III”--were mixed and that not one major critical organization at the time chose to honor either of the films with a best-picture award. So it was only with time that “Godfather I” and “Godfather II” have become the classics they are today.
