A bomb threat delayed a speech by an author on Palestinian politics at UC San Diego Wednesday night, campus police reported.
Shortly before the scheduled 7:30 p.m. lecture of Edward Said, a well-known spokesman on Palestinian and Middle East politics, a caller telephoned campus police to say that a bomb had been placed in UCSD’s Price Center Theatre, police said.
The call was made by a male and received by a campus police dispatcher at 6:47 p.m. The dispatcher said the man gave no indication who he was and said only that there was a bomb in the Price Center, then hung up.
While hundreds of people waited outside to be seated, police and bomb-sniffing dogs searched the theater. When no bomb was found, the lecture proceeded about half an hour later with no further disruptions.
