KPMG Peat Marwick Plans Layoffs: KPMG said it will layoff 15 of its partners in the Los Angeles area as part of a previously announced plan to cut back staff in the face of an economic downturn. Los Angeles managing partner Clarence T. Schmitz said that 265 partners nationwide, including those in Los Angeles were notified of the layoffs on Friday. The layoffs will become effective May 1, and the partners will continue receiving their salaries for a year after their departure.
