Deere & Co.: The Moline, Ill.-based manufacturer reported a loss of $43.1 million for the first quarter, contrasted with a profit of $78.5 million a year ago. Revenue was $1.4 billion, off 12%. Worldwide equipment operations, which exclude financial services units, lost $72.4 million, contrasted with earnings of $42.9 million a year ago. The company said results were affected by lower production schedules, high sales incentive costs and uncertain economic conditions, which discouraged agricultural purchases.
