Dutch publisher Elsevier said it had sold its remaining 8.9% stake in Britain’s Pearson PLC, publisher of the Financial Times and owner of Penguin books, ending a share exchange that was to have led to a merger. . . . General Cinema Corp. extended the expiration date of its cash tender offers for the publicly held bonds of Harcourt Brace Jovanovich Inc. until Thursday. The offer had been scheduled to expire Monday.
