American Ecology Stake to Be Sold: Browning-Ferris Industries Inc., a Houston waste-management company, agreed to sell its 52% controlling stake in Agoura Hills-based American Ecology Corp. to Harry J. Phillips Jr., a former Browning-Ferris officer and director for $16.6 million in cash and notes, according to a filing with the SEC. American Ecology builds and operates hazardous waste and radioactive waste disposal sites.
