Cap Cities/ABC Buys British TV Properties: Capital Cities/ABC Inc. and two French companies, Canal Plus and Compagnie General des Eaux, will buy the television division of W. H. Smith Group, a British retailer. The price was not disclosed. The division owns European satellite and cable television program services, broadcast production facilities and a significant interest in the British production company Yorkshire Television Holdings. Among the Smith properties is the European Sports Network, in which Capital Cities/ABC already has a stake.
