Santa Monica : Water Use Down 24%

Santa Monica’s water consumption in April was down 24% from April, 1990, city officials reported this week. The reduction exceeded the 20% target set in a mandatory conservation ordinance that took effect April 1.

April’s 24% reduction nearly matched the 26% cut in consumption that occurred in March compared to the previous year. The April figure, however, may be the more remarkable one because the conservation occurred during a month virtually without rain. In March, substantial rains made most outdoor watering unnecessary.
