Sailing Classic Scheduled for Saturday

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Maritime Museum fleet--the Star of India, the ferry boat Berkeley and the steam yacht Medea--will receive proceeds from entry fees and sponsorships of the BMW Sailing Classic, scheduled for Saturday.

Last year more than 1,100 sailors competed for $25,000 of prize money in the 10-mile race, the biggest annual event on San Diego Bay.

All interested skippers can enter the race for sailboats 20- to 75-feet in length which is scored on a handicap system allowing first-timers a chance to go head-to-head with some of San Diego’s top skippers.
