General Electric Co.: The Fairfield, Conn., broadcasting and industrial giant said second-quarter net income rose 4% to $1.131 billion, while revenue increased 3% to $14.8 billion. GE said that despite a sharp drop in income from its NBC unit, the recession and a weakening global economy, its operating margin of 12.9% equaled the record set in the year-ago quarter.
